East River Ferry Celebrates 1 Millionth Passenger

(New York, NY) Bytemark would like to congratulate the East River Ferry in surpassing one-million riders in just over a year, more than double the initial projection of 409,000 annual riders. Mayor Bloomberg and City Council Speaker Quinn were on hand to mark the occasion and to highlight the service as an important part of the city’s transportation network.

The East River Ferry service launched June 13, 2011 as part of Mayor Bloomberg’s Waterfront Vision and Enhancement Strategy (WAVES), an initiative to provide improved utilization of the City’s waterfront and waterways. The East River Ferry’s success brings convenience and pleasure to waterfront neighborhood residents and tourists.

Bytemark is proud to play a role in reaching this ridership milestone by providing mobile ticketing for the East River Ferry and Hudson River Ferries. Android and iOS users can skip the ticket booth and purchase a ticket directly on their mobile with the official NY Waterway App.
